High Grade Raden Koshirae

Raden is a Mother of Pearl intrincate traditional Japanese work

Katana blade:

Antique traditional Japanese Tamahagane (玉鋼) forge work

Measures:

Cutting edge: 72,4 cm.
Nagasa 71,1 cm.
Sori: 1.7 cm.
Moto-haba: 3,1 cm.
Saki-haba: 2,3 cm.
Moto-gasane: 0.75 cm.
Saki-gasane: 0.45 cm.

Nakago hole: Three

Hamon: Suguha (shinogi white line very well delimited with tones that denotes a high quality tempering)

Hada: Masame (Let can see also the Matsu pattern between some lines)

Mei: Mumei

Edge: Perfect razor type

Polished: Indeterminate age but appears quite recent

Blade Condition:

A few lines at the beginning of the sheet near the edge with no depth and barely visible. Some minimal black spots towards the part of the Mune, practically negligible. In general the condition is very good as can be seen in the detailed photos.

Koshirae:

Very High Grade. Antique recently restored by a Koshiraeshi (Koshirae master craftsman).

Wood: Honoki
Fuchi/Kashira: Iron with Gold inlay depicted a dragonfly.
Same: Natural ray skin.
Ito: Fine intertwined with natural Japanese Silk thread of three colors.
Menuki couple: Rare dispar couple with silver and gold

Tsuba: A rare vegetal shape wrought iron quality open work from the Edo period.

Kozuka: Is the antique original. Shakudo (copper and pure gold alloy) and Silver
Kogatana: Tamahagane traditional forged, signed Mei unreadable seems Suyuki
Kogatana estimated age: Edo period
Kogai: Golden modern work

Saya work: Raden (Mother of Pearl Urushi lacquered)
Koiguchi: Buffalo horn
Kurikata: Rare Kurikata of bone with embossed Shitodome couple.
Kojiri: forming set with Fuchi/Kashira Iron with Gold inlay depicted a dragonfly
Sageo: Green dark Silk

Kodogu (Fuchi/Kashira, Menuki couple, Tsuba, Kozuka, Kojiri) estimated Age: Edo period (except the Kogai as indicated above).

Dragonfly: Victory symbolism and Samurai high-ranking:
Dragon-fly shaped was made in Japan in the 17th century. Embellishments such as this were used by high-ranking lords so they could be easily located on the battlefield.
